We were never supposed to come to Sayulita, Mexico...
Originally we planned to visit the state of Oaxaca, but the day we were supposed to arrive, Southern Mexico was hit by a devastating earthquake. Feeling it would be unwise to visit, we sought out a small beach town on the West Coast to stay for the week. It took us fourteen hours, two buses, and a twenty minute walk along a highway, but hey...budget traveling is not always glamourous.
What we found was a destination that had options for everyone. I know, I know, I know...it annoys me too when people say a destination is one-size-fits-all. But Sayulita life is wonderfully, bizarrely, and colorfully accessible on any budget: they have luxury resorts, cheap hostels (if you're looking for a cheap, nice Sayulita hostel we recommend Lush Hostel,) a booming nightlife scene, and $1 tacos that will make you rethink your life choices.
Tani talks more about what to do in Sayulita in our full review (above), but this will give you a glimpse into what your Sayulita vacation would look like.
